12.2.05: The MBA: Greenwich Admirals on top of the world..
The talented Seven Ton Maids 'A' side fell at home 68-73 to the Greenwich Admirals, as the Admirals lasted the
stretch to inflict a loss on their league rivals.
This was the first match ever to be played in the brand new £7M sports centre at the Sevenoaks School. The complex
contains a large futuristic sports hall, with 2 full size basketball courts including electronic scoreboards. This is a big
step for the venue standards of the MBA, and hopefully the trend of more good venues becoming available
will continue in this way.
Both teams reported for the game minus a few regular players, but Greenwich saw the opportunity to give debuts to
new signings, Finnish player, Kimmo Nurminen and Terry Efeosa Egharevba.
This turned out to be a very close and competitive game, with both sides exchanging basket for basket. Greenwich
managed to be in front at the end of each quarter, although the Seven Ton Maids had taken the lead at least once
during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters, but not the final quarter. Greenwich's biggest lead came in the 4th quarter
when they lead by 9 points with only a few minutes left on the clock. Coach, Tim Lewis called a time-out for STM and
set up a full-court press. This almost won the Tons the game, as Greenwich struggled to beat the press. STM converted
4 of the turn-overs for 8 quick points, as Greenwich could only reply with 1 point from a free throw. Greenwich still
lead by 2 points with about 20 seconds to go, when they managed to safely set up a four corner offence in the STM half
of the court. Greenwich's Ali Ballentine sealed the win with a well taken 3-point basket just before the final buzzer.
Special mentions go to Dave Annable (Iroquois) who officiated this game on his own, and to Seven Ton Maids players
S.Betts (32 points) and B. Connor (19 points) whose efforts should surely move them up into the MBA Top 10 scorers
listings.

Following a poor performance the previous week, the Walderslade Wizards gave themselves every chance of
progressing into the next round, with a comfortable win against Larkfield B. Chasing a 45 point handicap, the Wizards
fought back to within 17 points at the half with accurate shooting from Paul Woodhouse and Phil Charman. The third
quarter saw a great defensive man-to-man display with Wizards pressurising the ball and causing a number of steals.
By the end of the quarter, the Wizards had forced their way into the lead, and did not look back with a 126-97
victory.

21.1.05: (MBA) Latest Results round-up..
This week's MBA Cup and Rosebowl fixtures provided some interesting scorelines, with the Dartford Sharks beating
the Seven Ton Maids A's, with a buzzer-beater to seal a 69-67 victory in the Rosebowl. Bromley B's took on the
Walderslade Wizards in the Rosebowl, and prevailed 57-52 in a what was a very close game. Guru Nanak took their
place in the Semi-Finals of the MBA Cup, with a 96-55 victory. Iroquois started strong early on with Dave Annable and
Wes Curtis dominating the Iroquois scoring, but Guru Nanak replied to Iroquois' inside presence with some fantastic
outside shooting from Jag Hayre who netted eight treys for 26 points, whilst Ranjit Gill followed with 21. Manj Hayre
followed on that display with another four treys to add 12 points. Wes Curtis led all scorers with 30 for Iroquois,
followed by Dave Annable on 10.
